Summary

In honor of ASMP’S 75th anniversary and focus on Strictly Business, two of the photo industry’s power women have come together to educate and inspire you. Past ASMP Chair and director of photography at Buck The Cubicle, Jenna Close, and veteran visual marketing consultant, author and international lecturer, Selina Maitreya.

Saturday will be a high value, daylong event that is as informational as it is inspirational. Selina will be available for private review portfolios on Sunday, when up to four photographers will have the opportunity to work directly with Selina for 2 hours each in a mentoring session.

Saturday Morning: Steps to Success

Description: Information is power! In honor of ASMP’S 75th anniversary and focus on Strictly Business, two of the Photo industry’s power women have come together to educate and inspire our photo community. The morning program led by Selina, Steps to Success, clearly instructs photographers and provides us with specific sales and marketing steps to take in order to develop a successful business.

Time: 10am – 12:30pm

Saturday Afternoon: Licensing, Pricing and Professional Business Practices

Description: Jenna will share examples from her own work in photography and motion to discuss the challenges, and offer real world  solutions in regards to :

  • pricing
  • licensing
  • negotiations
  • contracts

Jenna will begin by discussing Copyright, giving a brief history of how it came to exist, the positive and negative aspects of the copyright system today, and the current initiative to create a more reasonable system for pursuing infringements, also known as The CASE Act.

The project rate pricing system will be discussed and attendees will walk away from the program with a roadmap for better business practices as well as resources to further their success as a small business owner.

End of day Q&A with Jenna and Selina

There will be a one hour Q&A with both Jenna and Selina, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask the presenters any questions that still remain.

(Optional) Sunday: Private Portfolio Consultations

Description: Selina will hold 1-on-1 portfolio consultations. These 2-hour intensive sessions must be booked in advance. Saturday attendees may book their private session with a ⅓ discount. Details to book your session are forthcoming.

Speakers

Session 1: Selina Maitreya

The creative impulse manifests in many ways from the tangible to the transcendent. For Selina Maitreya (http://selinamaitreyaconsultant.com), creating symbiosis in relationships and empowering the artfulness of the soul are serious personal and professional pursuits.

Widely respected for her innovative presentations and her highly effective individual training sessions, she brings an impressive range of talents to her photo- consulting activities. And with an extensive history in the photographic, advertising, marketing, business and academic communities, she has earned a reputation as knowledgeable, humble and tenacious.

In addition to lecturing over 100 times by invitation from ASMP, APA and CAPIC, Selina has been interviewed for articles in The British Journal of Photography, VISION (OOTY INDIA) ADWEEK, PDN, PICTURE, and HOW magazine.

Selina has authored articles that have appeared in numerous industry trades publications and her best selling book, PORTFOLIOS THAT SELL was published in June 2003, with Oprah Winfrey’s photo editor at O Magazine, Karen Frank calling it a “must have for any pro photographer.” Selina’s second book, HOW TO SUCCEED IN COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY is another best seller and continues to be sold worldwide.

Session 2: Jenna Close

Jenna Close is an award-winning commercial photographer and filmmaker from San Diego, California.

As the Director of Photography at Buck the Cubicle (www.buckthecubicle.com), her work focuses on contemporary conceptual storytelling for trailblazing humans and purpose driven brands. Buck the Cubicle has created branded, visual content for: NBC, Swarovski, Sunpower, The Sierra Club, and Rotary International.

Jenna and her work have been featured in the 2018 PDN Photo Annual, National Geographic Short Film Festival, and the Discovery Channel.

Jenna is also the Past-Chair of the National Board of ASMP.  As the youngest female Chair in the history of the organization, she has spoken across the country for ASMP and WPPI, and recently testified before Congress in support of The CASE Act.

In her spare time she enjoys surfing, playing cornhole and backpacking solo, around the world.
