Dear Friends –
When I joined ASMP back in 1995 during the first Strictly Business conference, I had no idea that I would become the President of my chapter, be elected to the National Board, serve as the National President or work as ASMP’s Director of Content Strategy. It has been a wild and wonderful ride, but sadly, this Friday marks my last day in this role.
The 20 years that I’ve been involved in ASMP’s leadership and operations have helped me grow as a photographer, as a professional, as a business owner, and as a human being. I will always be grateful for all I’ve learned, for the amazing opportunities to make a difference, and most of all, for the many, many incredible people I’ve gotten to know and work with along the way.
I am so proud to have been part of the team that grew ASMP’s membership from 4,000 to over 7,000 members in just a few short years, to have represented ASMP at countless industry trade shows, conferences and advocacy meetings, and to have helped so many photographers learn how to work digitally, break into the biz, jumpstart their careers, and master earning a living in a world where everyone has a camera.
I have loved writing, editing and producing tutorials, web content, articles and communications for ASMP and am especially proud of authoring 3 chapters in the ASMP Guide to New Markets in Photography and my role in developing ASMP’s downloadable guides on social media, copyright and, most recently, tethered photography.
But, most of all, it’s the people that have made all the hard work and long hours so very worthwhile. Through ASMP, I have met, worked with, emailed and talked to literally thousands of photographers. Your creativity, unswerving dedication to your craft, extraordinary problem solving skills and, Oh My God, the hours of camaraderie and laughter you have shared with me, leave me speechless. For that, I thank you with all my heart.
I hope you’ll join me for my very last Business as unUsual webinar, You’ve Been Infringed, Now What?, this Wednesday, January 27 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm eastern. Producing and hosting this monthly webinar series has been a labor of love from the very start. My deepest thanks to all who have joined me as presenters and attendees – you have made this series so much more than I had ever imagined it could be when I first discussed it with ASMP’s Board of Directors. If you missed any of our 30 previous episodes, I encourage you to watch the recordings.
My relationship with ASMP may be changing, but my commitment to supporting and educating my fellow photographers has never been stronger. One of the first projects I’m excited to tackle is the creation of a comprehensive course on pricing photography. I envision a series of online classes that cover everything you need to have confidence in your numbers and estimating strategy, complete with case studies, sample correspondence, real estimates from real projects, tips from buyers, reps and established professionals, and much, much more.
If that sounds like something you’d like to be part of, sign up for my email list atwww.2goodthings.com/pricingphotography. You can choose whether you want to receive occasional tips and updates or if you just want to find out when the course is launched. And, since everything’s better when a team’s involved, you can opt into helping me shape this program by either sharing your expertise or by helping me understand your pricing pain points and questions so I can make sure this course covers exactly what you need the most.
I wish you all every success and hope you’ll stay in touch – please friend me on Facebook, connect with me on LinkedIn, follow me on Twitter or sign up for my pricing photography mailing list.
All my best,
Judy Herrmann
