October 24, 2016 – Tom Kennedy and Mike Klipper have spoken to a few key staff members still in town before the election to express their concerns on behalf of ASMP members that the momentum on small claims legislation not be adversely impacted by Maria Pallante’s departure as Register of Copyrights, and will continue to express that point when meeting with other elected officials and staff on Capitol Hill.
The two also participated in a well-attended live/phone-in Copyright Alliance meeting in Washington DC to share information and discuss the recent removal of Maria Pallante as Register of Copyrights.
Among the highlights of the meeting:
- During the meeting, House Judiciary Chairman, Bob Goodatte, and Ranking Member, John Conyers, issued a press release addressing Maria Pallante’s work as Register of Copyrights, praising her efforts to provide crucial information to Congress on copyright policy matters.
- Keith Kupferschmid, CEO, Copyright Alliance, indicated that he is still reaching out to House and Senate Judiciary Committee Members and their staffs to gather more information about whether or not they were consulted in advance by the Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, on her decision to remove Maria Pallante as Register of Copyrights, and given the chance to weigh in on the decision.
Additional updates on actions occurring within the United States Copyright Office, Library of Congress, the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, and the Copyright Alliance will be forthcoming as information is gathered by Tom Kennedy and Mike Klipper.
