ASMP Seattle/Northwest Wants You!
<July 15 Update: Email was sent today. If you don’t see it, please check your junk mail. Deadline to express interest in volunteering is August 14, 2024.>
Soon (ETA early next week) you’ll receive an email asking for volunteers to join the ASMP Seattle/Northwest Steering Committee. That email will provide detail on how to volunteer but here’s information to get you thinking about it!
We are looking for twelve volunteers to join the Steering Committee, aka Board, for the balance of 2024, and potentially beyond.
About the Steering Committee
If you are interested in moving the chapter forward and are willing to commit to planning and leading an event* you should volunteer! Any paid member can volunteer.
Once volunteers are selected, the committee will choose three to five officers from among themselves. Officers must have a Professional or Leader ASMP membership.
It’s time for more representation from the entire chapter (Eastern Washington, Tacoma area, Montana, etc). We are especially interested in recruiting members outside the Seattle area to represent their geographic area, manage satellite events either in conjunction with Seattle events (e.g. the annual slideshow event), or standalone events such as coffee meetups, local pub nights, photowalks.
- Committee members should expect to attend a monthly Steering Committee meeting (in-person and/or via Zoom).
- Additional meetings for specific projects or events may be scheduled, if needed.
- Committee members will also have access to Chapter Leader Town Halls run by ASMP national, but are not required to attend.
If more than twelve members volunteer, we may need to schedule a formal voting process but will address that, if needed.
Timeline
- Email sent week of July 15, 2024
- Once the email is sent, members will have 30 days to express interest in joining the Steering Committee
- If twelve or fewer members volunteer, we will move forward to establish the Steering Committee by meeting soon after the 30-day deadline. At the meeting we will elect Officers, establish a 2024 timeline, and take care of chapter business
- If more than twelve members volunteer, we may need to hold an official election. If an election is necessary, we’ll provide additional information about the process and timeline
- The next National Chapter Leader Town Hall is September 3rd. Attendance is not required
For more information or questions, look for the email coming next week or send a message to Seattle@asmp.org.

* Events can be simple, like a photowalk, or more complex. The committee can help with ideas, so don’t let that hold you back!
