Philadelphia, PA… The American Society of Media Photographers’ highly acclaimed Strictly Business conference series for imaging professionals will be held in three locations beginning this month: January 21-23 in Los Angeles; February 25-27 in Philadelphia; and April 1-3 in Chicago. Strictly Business 3 (SB3) will offer a variety of topics to help photographers enhance their professionalism and build their businesses. The topics include new approaches to licensing and copyright in the online media age, branding and marketing, the business side of video, stock photography, new business models and strategic career planning.
According to ASMP Executive Director Eugene Mopsik, “The Strictly Business conference series was developed to help imaging professionals stay current and informed. This is especially important in the face of the significant changes in our industry.” A portion of the funding for SB3 is from a distribution ASMP received from the Author’s Coalition of America (ACA) which is specified for furthering industry education and advocacy.
The ACA subsidy has allowed ASMP to keep attendance costs as low as possible. Conference fees, which include meals, receptions and programming, are: $200 for students; $250 for ASMP members; and $400 for non-members. As a special incentive, non-members who join ASMP within 30 days of attending the conference will receive a discount of $150 off their first year membership fee (with the exception of students, whose annual dues are only $45).
“SB3 offers photographers at all career stages the ability to advance their skills and knowledge,” said Education Director Susan Carr. Past conference participants have given the Strictly Business conferences the highest ratings, calling it a ‘turning point’ of their careers and the ‘best photo event’ ever attended.
Sponsors of the SB3 Conferences include:
Platinum — Adobe, Agency Access, Canon, PDN, After Capture, Rangefinder and WPPI;
Gold — ADBASE, Foundfolios, MacGroup, Mac On Campus, A&I books and Photoshelter;
Copper — Modern Postcard and Phase One.
Speakers for the SB3 events are: Kate Baldwin, Ellen Boughn, Susan Carr, Jim Cavanaugh, Blake Discher, Shannon Fagan, Richard Harrington, Judy Herrmann, Richard Dale Kelly, Tom Kennedy, Sean Kernan, Jay Kinghorn, Peter Krogh, Gail Mooney, Jeff Sedlik, Rosh Sillars, Colleen Wainwright and Thomas Werner.
ASMP is the premier trade association for imaging professionals, providing members with all the tools, information and support needed to run successful photography businesses. Over 7,000 strong with chapters throughout the country, ASMP members are recognized as a community of forward-thinking professionals.
