Maria Baranova has been an integral part of New York's Theater and Dance community since 2011. Her work ranges from capturing dress rehearsals and promotional shoots to her personal portrait project, Faces of Downtown Scene, which highlights the off-stage lives of performers. Maria has worked with a wide range of Off-Off-Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Broadway companies in New York, as well as theaters across the East Coast. A graduate of Art School in Helsinki, Finland, Maria holds a BA in Art Painting and a degree in Photography. Fluent in Russian, Finnish, and English, she has successfully completed photography projects around the world. Her work has been featured in prominent publications such as ARTFORUM, American Theatre, Brooklyn Rail, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, among others. In addition to performance photography, Maria’s creative practice includes still life, medium format film portraiture, street photography, and darkroom printing.
