Photography Business Workshop with Barry Schwartz
ASMP Northern California, the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), and the Los Angeles Center of Photography (LACP) present an all-day immersive business workshop by Barry Schwartz, photographer and educator.
We’ll talk about pricing and negotiating, copyright, contracts, insurance, releases, art school, assisting, and industry cultures. Marketing is so important: social media, websites, SEO, mailers, portfolio reviews, how to find clients and how they find you.
We cover technical issues like color management, printing, and digital workflow, designed to speed your work, keep it safe, and keep you sane.
Soft skills are just as important as all the rest: understanding how clients think, how to act and react to their needs and demands, and communicating what you have to offer. If you donʼt know what they need, you canʼt give them what they want.
Every specialty has its own requirements – and you may work in all. Weʼll break them down to four main types: commercial, editorial, retail, and fine art.
Everyone who attends gets 18 pages of resources, including links to free and paid software, useful blogs and websites, continuing learning, and business books and publications. You also get sample contracts, releases, and spreadsheets for taxes.
Registration fee includes breakfast snacks along with lunch and coffee (coffee all day!).
