Discussion: Entrepreneurship in the Arts

Launch or expand your creative enterprise through a fully online, immersive, and hands-on learning environment. At SUNY Purchase, this is one of the only master’s programs of its kind in the country.

The Entrepreneurship in the Arts MA addresses a critical need for imaginative and skillful leadership in the commercial and nonprofit arts sectors within the U.S. and in countries that model the U.S. system. Arts leaders need to reinvent the current landscape; build a solid foundation in management and leadership skills; and think, act, and work as entrepreneurs. This degree program enables graduates to identify, imagine, and build enterprises that will create and sustain the arts world of tomorrow.

This program caters to artists seeking to develop their entrepreneurial skills to support their creative and professional practice and to entrepreneurs seeking to create enterprises that provide greater access to the arts for people everywhere. Business plans developed and implemented through the program include an admissions consulting company for music conservatory-bound students, a sustainable fashion brand, a streaming platform for local theater productions, and others.

BIO
Jordan Shue

Assistant Professor of Practice in Entrepreneurship in the Arts
Department Chair, Entrepreneurship in the Arts

Jordan believes that artists and creatives are integral contributors to our economy, communities, and lives. She knows that without creative entrepreneurs, our world would be missing the original thinkers that help us innovate and grow.
Jordan previously worked with Americans for the Arts to foster a collaborative ecosystem between the arts and business sectors that harnesses their collective power as agents of change, transforming the communities and cultures in which we live, work, and play. Taking on the role of Program Director of Purchase College’s Entrepreneurship in the Arts MA was a natural progression of those professional and personal goals.
