Join ASMP as it displays a selection of works from its members that illuminate and reveal the changes happening all around us. And this year, ASMP is proud to include selections from members of NANPA, ASMP’s newest partner in nature photography.

More About Our Selection Committee:

Gary Hershorn, Deputy Photo Director ABC News, Digital

Gary is Based in New York City. Prior to ABC, he was a news curator at Facebook and before that a photo editor at FOXnews.com, and at Reuters from 1985 and 2014.

While at Reuters Gary served a photographer, and photo editor, and managed the photo department in the Americas for the final 14 years of his time. He traveled extensively to cover events like Olympic Games, soccer World Cups, Super Bowls, major golf and tennis championships, the Academy Awards, and political events like summits and elections. The Rio2016 Olympics were the 17th Olympic Games that Gary covered.

Chiarina Chen is a New York-based independent curator.

From a psychology and art history background, her curatorial praxis explores interconnectivity in the posthuman condition. Since 2016, she has produced and developed international projects that merge art and emotional technology, ranging from mixed media, video, photography, and sound installations to cyborg performances and experimental theater.

Her key series include Poetics of Inquiry: How to Stay with Trouble (MIT), Collecting Anxiety (Multi Venues in New York City and Worldwide), Is This Intimacy? (University of Applied Arts Vienna and Krinzinger Projekte), Magic Back to Town (Cyborg Foundation, Posthuman Research Center at New York University), and The Wasteland of the Future (Shanghai Himalayas Museum, Art Center at Philosophy Department, Fudan University).

Joe and Mary Ann McDonald, Wild Life Photographers & Founding Members of NANPA

Joe and Mary Ann are professional wildlife photographers living in McClure, Pennsylvania. Joe and his wife Mary Ann lead photographic tours and safaris around the world. Joe has been a full-time professional wildlife photographer since 1983, and has authored 15 books on photography and wildlife. Mary has been photographing since 1989 and has authored 29 children’s books on natural history. Their work is represented by stock agencies worldwide. They lead photography safaris and trips an average of 25-30 weeks out of each year, traveling to Africa, South America, and India on a regular basis. They have photographed all seven of the world’s big cats in a single year four different times, and have the unofficial ‘world record’ for mountain gorilla treks in Rwanda, at 106 each, with more to come. Both Joe and Mary Ann have had the honor of naming a baby gorilla at Rwanda’s Kwitza Inza ceremony, the highest honor one can achieve in mountain gorilla conservation.
