Photojournalists are critical to society, and ASMP celebrates the winners of such prestigious awards like the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography. Our partners at Sony have highlighted one recent winner core to the ASMP Membership. As they note:

Columbia University just announced the 2025 Pulitzer Prizes (awarded on the recommendation of the Pulitzer Prize Board), and we are thrilled to share that Sony photographer and New York Times photojournalist Doug Mills has received the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography.

Mills receives the award for his coverage of the assassination attempt on then presidential candidate Donald Trump, and an image of the bullet whizzing past Trump. With a career spanning several decades, Mills has established himself as one of the leading photographers in the realm of political journalism. He’s the senior photographer in Washington for The New York Times, focused on the White House, and has covered every U.S. president since Ronald Reagan.
