2023 ASMP Board Candidate Declaration & Election Process and Timeline

Submit your candidate declaration today.

This is to announce the call for candidate declarations for the 2023 ASMP National Board of Directors. If you are a current ASMP Professional or Life Member and are interested in serving on the National Board in one of the four open seats for a three-year term, please review the candidate declaration protocol and the election timeline below.

Requirements for Becoming a Candidate

The National Board has 12 members who must be Professional Members or Life Members of ASMP. (Professional Members were formerly known as General Members.) Each board member serves a three-year term, and the terms are staggered so that four members are up for election each year. A board member can run for reelection but cannot serve more than two terms (6 years) in a row.

The new board members will begin their three-year terms at the time of the annual Summer Board meeting, traditionally held in late June or early July.

Submitting Candidate Declaration

Candidates for office will declare their own candidacy. To submit your declaration of candidacy for the National Board of Directors, please send an email to declaration@asmp.org with “2023 National Board Candidate Declaration” in the Subject Line with at least a minimal statement of “This is to declare my candidacy for the 2023 ASMP National Board of Directors”. The declaration must be received in the National office by April 14, 2023 at 11:59pm PT for inclusion on the ballot for the upcoming election.

2023 Election Timetable

March 29, 2023 – April 14, 2023: Candidates declare their intent to run for the National Board.

April 17, 2023: All declared candidates will be formally advised of requirements and options for ballot information, candidate statement, and endorsement submissions.

April 24, 2023: Deadline for candidates to provide their ballot information, candidate statement, and endorsement submissions.

Note: Each candidate’s statement is limited to 500 words and will be part of the official ballot materials. National Board members do not endorse candidates. Candidates may seek the endorsement of other ASMP Professional members and include those endorsers’ names in their official statements. Candidates’ endorsers may furnish supplemental information that is published only on the ASMP website (and has its own word-count limit of 300 words (approximately one page/double-spaced)). Many members find that the extra statements are helpful. The supplemental endorsements are displayed with each candidate’s ballot statement.

April 26, 2023: Voting begins. Voting will be conducted online. There will be no paper ballots issued for the 2023 election. Voting members should ensure that their contact email is up to date in their member profile in order to ensure receipt of a digital election ballot. Note: If the number of properly submitted candidate declarations are equal to or less than the number of Board seats available, all candidates will be seated without a vote.

May 26, 2023: Last day to vote. Eligible Members must cast their ballots on or before this date. Voting closes at 11:59pm PT on May 26, 2023.

Week of May 29, 2023: Incoming National Board Directors will be announced.

If you have questions about the election process, please submit them to communications@asmp.org.
