Alternative Processing: An Overview with Bostick & Sullivan

June 29, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Curious about alternative photographic processes? Wondering if Platinum/Palladium, cyanotype, Van Dyke brown, or albumen printing might enhance your artistic vision? Join Dana Sullivan and Christi Wiltenburg from Bostick and Sullivan in Santa Fe as they give an overview of photographic alternative processes. Bostick and Sullivan has supported photographers and other artists using alternative approaches since 1980 and the company is recognized as a leader in the field, providing both supplies and education. During an hour-long presentation, Dana and Christi will talk about why photographers might find alternative processes useful in their work. They will describe various processes, how digital negatives are made and used, and will show prints of the same image in 4 versions to give an idea of the possibilities that alternative processes afford. Following the presentation, there will be 30 minutes for questions.

This is a free (live only) Zoom Event presented by EMPHASIS:  ASMP/NM Fine Art,  5:30-7:00pm MST

Bostick & Sullivan has been the world’s primary source for historic alternative process photographic printing supplies since 1980. We offer customer tech support and teach workshops in a variety of historic photo processes based on 41 years of experience.  The company was started by Richard and Melody out of their garage in Van Nuys, CA selling platinum and palladium materials and now is primarily run by Dana and Leigh Sullivan with Richard and Melody’s guidance and the support of three loyal photo passionate employees: Christi Wiltenburg, Mark Brown, and James O’Connell. Dana has been Bostick & Sullivan’s lead chemist and product development manager since 1995. Christi has been with the company since 2016, wearing many hats, and absorbing as much knowledge in alternative  processes as possible.
