Skills From The Trenches with Kevin Brusie
April 26 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
$40.00 – $60.00
In a perfect world of full budgets, our clients provide time and cash to cover a small army of dedicated creative professionals to create their still photos and video assets.
More and more, we find ourselves in a grossly imperfect world, of tight budgets and near impossible expectations, and we are challenged to create quality content that satisfies those expectations within limited budgets. Are you tempted to say “But we just can’t do that!”? Sometimes, that is the right answer. Other times the right answer is “Hold my beer!”
[Note: it’s a metaphorical beer. Only after you slay the dragon can you imbibe.]
Join us for a full day of reviewing the on-set challenges of life in the trenches of location photography with Kevin Brusie, 2025 version. He’ll demonstrate how to deal with:
Tight spaces
No time
Hideous or overpowering ambient lights
Choosing your camera white balance
Hideous ambient sound
Getting good audio
Strobe or LED?!?
Switching your mindset from still to video, and back
Struggle on set or planning for “fix it in post”
Did we mention “No time”?
Managing an anxious client
“What keeps you up at night before an assignment?” Let’s see if we can discover some tips to make you rest easier… Kevin will reveal what he keeps in his kit after 35+ years on the job, and the items he can’t live without. [Hint: top of the list is made by Sekonic and it’s not cheap]

Kevin Brusie Bio
Kevin is a member of American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and serves on the national board of directors. Flashes of Hope & Help Portrait are two non-profits where he donates his time, bringing pro photography to those in need.
When he can sneak away from a camera, Kevin can be found on his motorcycle touring the country or maybe at a track day – where he can speed, legally; or kayaking the wonderful lakes of Maine, or just hanging out with his wife, Sharyn, & drinking a fine beer.
