Photography Books • A Discussion with Sarah Leen, Barbara Peacock, and Greta Rybus

Please join ASMP New England at Maine Studio Works in Portland for a presentation with Sarah Leen, Barbara Peacock, and Greta Rybus. As a panel they will discuss their experiences editing and creating photography books.
The event begins at 6pm with a Social Hour and the program kicks off at 7pm. Snacks and drinks will be provided.


Sarah Leen became the first female Director of Photography at National Geographic Magazine and Partners. She worked as a contributing photographer to the National Geographic magazine for 20 years before becoming a Senior Photo Editor in 2004. Leen works with individual photographers, media and publishers consulting and editing visual projects. She is on the Board of Advisors of the Eddie Adams Workshop, on the Board of Directors of the International League of Conservation Photographers, a member of the Lucie Awards Advisory Board, and an inductee into the Missouri Journalism Hall of Fame.

Barbara Peacock is an assignment photographer and director living in Portland, Maine. She studied fine arts at Boston University School of Fine Arts, and photography and filmmaking at the The School for the Museum of Fine Arts / Tufts University.
In 2016 she published Hometown: 1982-2015, a thirty year photographic project of the small town where she grew up and continued to live as an adult. Published by BazanPhotos Publishing and printed in the USA by Puritan Capital. Her current project, American Bedroom: Reflections on the Nature of Life is a cultural and anthropological study of Americans in their prime dwelling: their bedrooms. It encompasses the entire US and took seven years to complete. Published by Kehre-Verlag and printed in Heidelberg, Germany, to be released in May 2024.

Greta Rybus is a photojournalist based in Maine who specializes in stories about people and the natural world for publications like the New York Times, the Guardian, and Travel + Leisure. She wrote and photographed Hot Springs: Photos and Stories of How the World Soaks, Swims, and Slows Down, to be released March 2024 by Ten Speed Press / Penguin Random House.
