ASMP & NPPA Present: The Movement – Photographs of the Racial Justice Protests for Black Lives
Akili Ramsess, Executive Director of the National Press Photographers Association moderates an all black panel for ASMP x NPPA’s “The Movement: Photographs of the Racial Justice Protests for Black Lives”. Maia Booker (Senior Multimedia Editor at TIME) Marcia Allert (Director of Photography at The Dallas Morning News) and photographers Yoshi James, Tara Pixley, Michael Santiago and Malike Sidibe join her.
This panel of thought leaders and frontline photographers will bring their insight to the discussion about the Black Lives Matter movement, what photos are assigned vs what is captured in the moment, when being a black photographer affected their access to certain jobs or coverage in a positive way, and when it was denied, how the editing process and deadlines impact their coverage and why certain stories may be disseminated by some media outlets but not by others.
Please join ASMP and NPPA on Wednesday July 22, 2020 at 08:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada) for what promises to be an engaging and frank examination of the coverage of the May and June 2020 racial justice protests.
