NANPA Foundation Expands with New Name and International Reach

Amherst, NY, March 6, 2025, The NANPA (North America Nature Photography Association) Foundation is excited to announce that as it approaches its 30th year it has a new name, a new look and the same commitment to its mission: Advancing Awareness and Appreciation of Nature through Photography.  The Nature Photography Foundation’s (formerly NANPA Foundation) mission is to raise funds and provide resources to advance awareness and appreciation of nature through photography. Our vision is to support education, conservation, photographic opportunities, advocacy, and ethical practices in nature photography.

Following an in-depth strategic planning meeting, the Foundation Board of Trustees evaluated how to better serve those who sought its grants and scholarships.  Already providing funding through the Philip Hyde Grant and Janie Moore Green Scholarship, it was decided to branch out and sow new seeds for expansion.  Evidence of this is that the 2024 Hyde grantees are both working on international projects:  Tom Enderlin and his work with jaguars in Costa Rica and Miguel Grageda and Sonoran Pronghorns in Mexico.

A few of the new commitments to the Foundation’s promise to the mission are:

  • Continuing its involvement with NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association) with a multi-year major sponsorship of the NANPA Summit.
  • Continuing the sponsorship of the Nature Photography Foundation College Scholarship Program at the NANPA Summit
  • A NANPA Summit Presentation of Responsible Travel and Tourism Photography: Ethics in Action
  • Increasing the financial awards for the Philip Hyde Grant from $2500 to $5000, through generous contributors
  • Forming a Partnership with The Roger Tory Peterson institute as a major sponsor of the NANPA Environmental Impact Award winners exhibit in August 2025.

As the Nature Photography Foundation Board President, Sonia Wasco, states, “This is indeed, a very exciting time to be part of the Nature Photography Foundation. Recognizing our future sense of direction and purpose, we took a good look at the Foundation’s mission:  To advance awareness and appreciation of nature through photography.  Our new name reflects just that. We quickly realized that the Foundation supports more than just North America Nature Photography. Our support reaches international borders. The last several years we have provided grants for photographer’s work linked to creativity, empathy, and optimism in nature from all around the world. We look forward to visiting with many NANPA and ASMP members at the Summit and sharing how we can help each other to accomplish future projects, along with bringing people together to build their strengths and map their paths to success. The Foundation envisions a future where nature photography shines brightly.”
