Long time ASMP Member, and ASMP Foundation Board Member Lou Jones is a Boston-based freelance photographer whose storied career spans commercial, editorial, and long-form documentary work.

Over his many decades in the industry, he has produced advertising and corporate imagery for major clients (including Nike, FedEx, Aetna, and KLM) and created editorial work for well-known publications such as Time, Fortune, Newsweek, People, and National Geographic.

Lou has traveled to more than 65 Foreign Countries & 48 of the 50 States while on assignment. He’s also photographed 13 Summer & Winter Olympic Games. His current most ambitious body of work may be the panAFRICAproject, an effort to build a contemporary visual portrait of modern Africa, explicitly pushing back against simplified Western preconceptions. The Griffin Museum of Photography notes that this project aims to document all 54 countries on the continent, a scope that makes clear Jones’ preference for depth over quick hits.

Lou has helped advance the profession through many years of dedicated service and leadership across the industry, but especially in his home Chapter of ASMP New England where he served as President. Across assignments and personal work alike, his career reflects a rare balance of technical excellence, curiosity, and commitment to stories that endure.
