How to Register

Follow these steps to register:

  • Log in if you’re an ASMP member.
  • Select a reviewer and a time (PST).
  • Add the selection to your cart.
  • Repeat for up to three reviews.
  • Proceed to checkout.

Post-checkout, you’ll receive two emails if you are a member: a confirmation and a discount code you can use to come back to this page and get your free review. For registration queries, email the administrator.

Important Notes

  • A “Product is unavailable” message indicates a fully booked slot.
  • Your confirmation email will contain appointment details.

Notes for Participants

Day Of Checklist

  • Review your appointments and arrive 15 minutes early.
  • Have your portfolio link or website and contact details ready.
  • Choose the work you most want to market yourself with.
  • Consider what your goals are for each review.
  • Let the reviewer know what you hope to get out of the review. For example, image selection, opinions on a project, or just sharing work.
  • A 20 min review goes by fast, make sure you do a lot of listening.
  • Be sure to login to Leica’s WiFi before your first review.
  • Be professional—bring a print or digital portfolio with full battery.
  • If using video, ensure the sound is muted.
  • It is your responsibility to ask for your Reviewer’s contact information during the review. We will not be able to provide that information to you.
  • After your review, you can either wait or leave temporarily, but please return 15 minutes before your next review.

Review Structure

  • Each review lasts 20 minutes, with a 2-minute warning before it ends.
  • We will signal a 2-minute warning before the 20 minutes is up. There will be a 10 minute break between the reviews so you can stretch, grab some water, and be ready for the next one.

Bio: David M. Barreda (he/him) is a visual editor, multimedia producer, curator, and journalist based in Oakland, California. He has more than 20 years of visual journalism experience as a photojournalist and photo editor and is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, where he received his Master’s degree, and of Middlebury College, where he majored in Geography and Environmental Studies. Born in southern Peru and raised on a sheep farm in Vermont, David lives with his partner, their 13-year-old daughter, and Dandelion, a poodle-terrier(?), Covid-adoptee, rescue companion.

I worked along side the editors, writers, art directors and photographers at Condé Nast Publications and Vanity Fair magazine to connect all the dots and produce covers, portraits and portfolios on location from Anchorage to the Amazon River and on to Timbuktu for over two and a half decades. I currently have a Silicon Valley based role more on the business side and continue to consult with photographers to develop their work and figure out how best to present it. Bio: Kassandra Kernes has extensive experience in the world of photography as a photo producer, manager, editor and photo publicist specializing in producing exceptional unit photography. She is known for her dedication to high-quality images, passion for “good light,” her ability to identify and capture significant moments (and hire photographers who can do the same), and for her outstanding art direction. An “intellectual creative,” she thrives while solving problems, leading a team, and working on hands-on creative projects. She is self-taught in Photoshop and specializes in retouching and graphic design. For over twelve years, she’s worked as a photo publicist, photo editor and producer at entertainment’s most reputable premium cable networks and studios, hiring unit photographers, editing and retouching images for distribution, working with talent, and managing red carpets. Kernes holds a Bachelor’s degree from Regis College in Communication with minors in Psychology and Spanish. She is an avid yogi, aspiring aerialist, expert on all things Gilmore Girls, and holistic wellness enthusiast.

Bio:
Aline Smithson is a visual artist, editor, and educator based in Los Angeles, California. She has exhibited widely including over 50 solo shows at a variety of international institutions and her work has been featured in publications including The New York Times, The New Yorker, and PDN. Smithson is the Founder and Editor- in-Chief of Lenscratch, a daily journal on photography. In 2012, she received the Rising Star Award through the Griffin Museum of Photography for her contributions to the photographic community and she also received the prestigious Excellence in Teaching Award from CENTER. In 2014 and 2019, Smithson’s work was selected for the Critical Mass Top 50. In 2015, the Magenta Foundation published her first significant monograph, Self & Others: Portrait as Autobiography, and in 2016, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum commissioned Smithson to create a series of portraits for the upcoming Faces of Our Planet Exhibition. In 2018 and 2019, her work was exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery in London as part of the Taylor Wessing Prize. Kris Graves Projects published her book, LOST II: Los Angeles and included her work in SOLACE and On Death. Peanut Press released her monograph, Fugue State, in Fall of 2021. In 2022, Smithson was recognized as a Hasselblad Heroine. Aline has been a juror for a host of organizations and galleries and reviewer and educator at photo festivals around the U.S.

Bio:
Rotem Rozental, Ph.D, is the Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Los Angeles Center of Photography. Between 2016-2022, she served as Chief Curator at American Jewish University, where she was also Assistant Dean of the Whizin Center for Continuing Education and Senior Director of Arts and Creative Programming. Her book, Pre-State Photographic Archives and the Zionist Movement was published in 2023 (Routledge), and was named recipient of the Jordan Schnitzer First Book Award by the Association for Jewish Studies.

Rotem is a lecturer at USC Roski School of Art and Design Critical Studies Department. She mentors artists worldwide and contributes regularly to magazines, journals and exhibition catalogues. Her writings about contemporary art and image-based media were published in Artforum, Photographies, Jewish Currents, Tablet and Forward, among other outlets.

Calvin B. Alagot is a Filipino American photo editor at the Los Angeles Times working with The Envelope, Image and Entertainment.  Prior, he was photo editing for the Food, Travel and Weekend sections.  Before joining the L.A. Times in 2016, he was a page designer at the Malibu Times and interned as a news reporter at L.A. Weekly.
