Call For Entry: Presenting Personal Projects
March 17, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free – $10.00*Due to popular demand, this event is now sold out but please follow our social media and newsletter for other upcoming opportunities.*
ASMP-LA will host a presentation of personal photography projects and facilitate constructive feedback from the audience. Five photographers working across a wide variety of genres will be selected to show up to 20 photographs that are connected by a theme or that tell a story. A brief artist statement and project title will precede showing the work. The presenter will then receive feedback from the viewers as to how effectively the images reflect the photographer’s intent.
In addition to the five presenters, eight photographers will be chosen to have 5 images from their project shown in a slide show that will loop during the socializing portion of the event.
Fall in love all over again—with photography! One way to keep your creative juices flowing and stay motivated is to focus on a personal photo project. Although photo assignments and satisfied clients have their rewards, maintaining your passion for photography can be a challenge if you’re only shooting to fulfill someone else’s vision and to deliver work on a deadline. Photo projects provide artistic freedom and opportunities to experiment and get the creative juices flowing, which in turn may strengthen your client work.
Personal projects are personal in that they express your unique point of view—but not personal in that you keep them to yourself. Share your photo essay with other photo enthusiasts, whether it’s a work in progress or a completed project now seeking an audience.
For all interested in photo projects, come catch some inspiration from the work presented and mix with others interested in photographic self-expression.
Call for personal photo projects — SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
A personal photography project is a set of images tied together by subject, theme, or style that tell a fuller and more dimensional story than a single image. The project is self-driven and reflects the photographer’s interests. This can be a work in progress or a completed project, but must be a cohesive group of 15 to 20 images.
Five projects will be selected for presentation. The presenter will read his or her brief project statement. Following that, the images will be projected, each showing on screen for approximately 10 seconds. We will let the images speak for themselves.
In addition, eight photographers whose work is not selected for the formal presentation will have five of their images displayed in a slide show that will loop during the socializing portion of the event.
