CALL FOR ENTRY FOR ASMP-LA’S IN-PERSON PRINT EXHIBITION

2022: A YEAR OF DUALITY

As 2022 draws to a close, we seek images that collectively offer a portrait of life in the USA during this past year. It was a year filled with hope as well as uncertainty. What has characterized 2022 in your community or elsewhere in our diverse country? As many seek human to human connection after an extended period of isolation and virtual interactions, in what ways has our world changed? In all aspects of life in 2022 we see duality—from political expression, to economic challenges, to the comfort level of returning to social gatherings, travel, and recreation.

From a personal to a sociological perspective, a  broad interpretation of the theme is encouraged. All genres, capture types, black & white and color are welcome for submission. All submitted images need to be taken within the United States during 2022. ASMP members and non-members are welcome to participate. Please follow our guidelines. 

IMPORTANT DATES:

• Submission deadline: 1/9/23 (11:59 PM PDT)
• Notification of acceptance: 1/14/23
• Accepted work only—deadline to send hi-res print files: 1/21/23
• Opening reception: Thursday 2/9/23
• Closing: Thursday 3/23/23 

 ACCEPTANCE  

Images will be chosen by the jurors for an in-person group exhibition at Photo Impact Imaging in Hollywood, CA. ASMP-LA will cover the costs and arrange for printing at Photo Impact’s digital lab. All photographers will be notified of the jurors’ decisions by January 14, 2023 or shortly after. All exhibited work will be offered for sale at $250 to be split 50/50 between the artist and a charity of ASMP’s choice. Work not sold must be picked up in person or it will be discarded. 

In order for ASMP-LA to print selected work, instructions for submitting hi-res TIFF files will be included in acceptance email notifications. Deadline for sending TIFF files will be 1/21/23. If printing files are not of adequate size and quality, or not received by the deadline, we reserve the right to withdraw inclusion in the print gallery exhibition.

AWARDS

Up to 30 images will be selected by the jurors for ASMP-LA’s group exhibition. Awards will be given for 1st place, 2nd place, and two Honorable Mentions. Prizes will be:
1st place: One year ASMP professional level membership or renewal if already a member ($335 value).
2nd place: One year membership or renewal at associate level ($225 value).
Honorable mentions will each receive a $75 gift card, which can be redeemed at the ASMP shop.

IMAGE SUBMISSION FORMATTING

 Please prepare your files as follows:  

• All files must be JPEG format, color profile sRGB, image resolution 72 ppi at 1200 pixels on the long side with maximum size of 2MB per image. 
• Do not watermark or place any visible identifying text/symbols on your image. 
• Name your files with the title of the photograph. Do not put your name in the file name nor special characters (©, ®, $, #). Put your name and contact information in the metadata. Example:  Your Title_1_of_6.jpg

NOTE: Judging will be blind to ensure impartiality. The file names will be changed to conceal your identity from the jurors. If you need technical help with submitting, email us at ASMPLAevents@gmail.com

SUBMISSION FEES
Member Fee: $10 for 6 images
Current ASMP Members of any chapter can submit up to 6 images for $10.

Non-Member Fee: $25 for 6 images
Non-members can Join ASMP before submitting to avail of the discount and receive membership benefits.

*To receive the membership discount, membership status needs be current at the time of submitting. Entering under the wrong category will result in disqualification and the entry fee will be forfeited. 

BY SUBMITTING IMAGES, YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING:

• The images are your own work, you own all rights to them, and take full responsibility for the content including the likeness of recognizable individuals as well as any misrepresentations made willfully or otherwise.
• Photographer retains full copyright but allows ASMP to display the photos in any manner related to promoting this or future ASMP photo contests and exhibitions. Usage includes, but is not limited to, an online gallery, print exhibition, and all ASMP related social media.
• Submission of images does not guarantee inclusion in the exhibition. Work that doesn’t fit the theme will not be considered. Decision of jurors is final.
• Entry fees are non-refundable. Membership status must be current at the time of submitting at the discounted entry fee. Entering in the wrong category will result in disqualification and the entry fee will be forfeited.
• If your work is accepted but your hi-res photo TIFF files are received late or are insufficient for quality prints, your work will not be part of the exhibition.
• Accepted work may be exhibited in a public gallery for the duration of the group show and will be offered for sale at $250 each to be split 50/50 between the artist and a charity of ASMP’s choice. Work not sold must be picked up in person by 3/30/23 or it will be discarded.
