Portfolio reviews are a pivotal opportunity for photographers and other lens-based artists to connect and build relationships with editors, agencies, galleries, and other industry experts. Reviews provide a chance to share work, receive critical feedback, and grow the bonds within our community. In an effort to remove barriers that impede equal access within our industry, ASMP LA and Chicago are offering FREE portfolio reviews with premier reviewers. Spots are limited, so read on to get the scoop on signing up TODAY!
In addition to the reviews, we are offering a special FREE workshop on how to prep your portfolio with award-winning photographers Nolwen Cifuentes, Jake Stangel, Jessica Pettway, and Senior Artist Rep at Giant Artists Dana Eudy on how to prep your portfolio.

- ASMP LA members: Membership in ASMP LA is available starting at $225/year. One portfolio review can run at least that much, so by joining and attending the reviews, your investment is covered right away. You can become an ASMP member on our website. - Diversify Photo + Natives Photograph Members: We believe strongly in creating a more inclusive, equitable industry. In service to that mission, we partnered with our colleagues at Diversify Photo and Natives Photograph to offer reserved review slots (~40% of total capacity) to BIPOC and Indigenous photographers. Attendees were selected via lottery from within each organization, and we are excited to collaborate. We believe passionately in centering DEI in all visibility and access for non-white photographers. By removing financial barriers and facilitating access to industry gatekeepers, it is our goal to create an equitable, inclusive industry.
HOW IT WORKS
We have assembled a diverse group of influential reviewers from premier industry organizations, including National Geographic, The New York Times, Washington Post Magazine, Fahey/Klein Gallery, RPA, book publishers, and others.
Reviews will be FREE for all attendees.
Attendees will receive (3) 20-minute Zoom reviews per person. Reviews will be first-come-first-served, with limited spaces available to encourage deeper, more meaningful connections with reviewers. Attendees will be able to review and request reviewers once the list is released. We encourage you to thoughtfully read each reviewer’s bio and statement to understand the kind of work they’d like to see before selecting your preferred reviewers.

Bonnie Briant Design, Principal Designer
Bonnie Briant is an award-winning designer who lives and works in New York City. Her projects regularly feature in the “Books of the Year” lists by Time Magazine, the New York Times, American Photo and National Geographic. Her versatility has allowed her to design award-winning books about everything from Disco Night 9-11 by Peter Van Agtmael about the War on Terror to The Family Imprint, by Nancy Borowick, intimate portraits of a family’s trials with cancer. Photo District News (PDN) Photo Annual Awards have honored at least one of her books every year since 2014. Originally from Rhode Island, she studied Photography and Imaging at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating in 2008.
What type of work would you like to see?: Documentary or long-form documentary, but open to anything!
The Visual Thinking Collective, Founder / Editor
In 2013 Sarah Leen became the first female Director of Photography at the National Geographic Partners leaving in 2019 to launch the Visual Thinking Collective for independent women visual professionals who support our photographic community by editing, teaching, curating, and project management.
For nearly 20 years she worked as a freelance photographer for the National Geographic magazine until 2004 when she joined the magazine staff as a Senior Photo Editor. As a photographer, Leen published sixteen stories and produced six covers for the National Geographic magazine.
She has juried numerous contests and portfolio reviews for Pictures of the Year International, Lens Culture, Critical Mass, Photo Lucida, The FotoEvidence Book Award, the Carmignac Award, the W. Eugene Smith Grants, the Getty Images Editorial Grants, the New York Times Portfolio Reviews and the World Press Joop Swarts Masterclass.
Leen works individually with photographers and agencies editing long term projects and books including the America, Again project by the VII Photo agency published on Medium and the 2020 FotoEvidence World Press Photo Book Award winner book HABIBI by Antonio Faccilongo.
Leen believes in sharing her knowledge through mentoring and teaching photography and photo editing workshops at the Missouri Photo Workshops, the Maine Media Workshops, the Santa Fe Photo Workshops, the Eddie Adams Workshop, and the PhotoLux Festival in Lucca, Italy.
What type of work would you like to see?: Long term project and stories. Photojournalism, portraiture ok. No fashion, no conceptual.
Freelance, Photo Editor
Jasmine DeFoore is a freelance photo editor and marketing consultant partnering with photographers, non-profits, agencies, and corporations to create engaging visual content. Recent clients include Dell, AFAR, Chase, United, Texas Tribune, and many talented photographers around the world.
What type of work would you like to see?: Editorial/documentary/photojournalism, food, travel, portraiture, interiors, lifestyle
Eye Forward, Owner / Agent
Carol was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. A family hobby became a profession and she earned her living in Canada as a photographer for seven years before moving to New York City in the early 1980s.
Carol worked as Annie Leibovitz’s studio manager for three years and was then invited to join Art + Commerce as an assistant agent to the original partners. Art + Commerce represented Annie as well as Steven Meisel and Robert Mapplethorpe at this time and grew to represent over twenty photographers.
Carol moved to Los Angeles in 2004 and opened the successful photography agency Eye Forward and is now representing, The Ingalls, Sam Jones, Spencer Lowell, Perry Ogden, Frank Ockenfels, Chantal Anderson, Brad Torchia, Heather Hazzan, and Michael Christopher Brown.
Carol is also a collector of photography and photography books and has taught at the International Center of Photography in New York, The Center for Photography in Woodstock NY as well as Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
What type of work would you like to see?: Any work but I have a preference for emerging or younger artists.
Giant Artists, Founder/Company Director
Giant was founded in 2006 by Jen Jenkins. Jen began her career in music, managing bands and in the process crossing paths with the photographers assigned to shoot their publicity images and album art. A creative herself, she saw book potential in many of these photographers’ work and went on to spearhead a number of seminal music monographs.
From there, launching her own agency here in Los Angeles was a natural next step. Jen has purposefully curated a roster that is a mix of emerging and established photographers and directors. Some are just beginning their careers, while others are award-winning and widely recognized for their excellence. Regardless of where they are in their journey, Giant’s artists are united in the spirit of creating art and making a living doing what they love.
In addition to guiding the careers of her artists, Jen continues to publish books. The photo annuals she has creative directed for Giant Artists have become collector’s items, a familiar sight in ad agencies and creative studios around the country.

Meredith Marlay is a Los Angeles-based curator and art consultant, specializing in photography exhibitions, collections, and photo books. Her background includes a fine-art education, and work positions held as an
Art Director, Senior Photography Editor, Curator, and Photography Director.
The artists she works with can be seen in The New York Times Magazine, TIME, Esquire, New York Magazine, Numéro, Wallpaper, VICE, Wired, TASCHEN, PowerHouse Books, Nike, Anthropologie, and Monocle as well as in permanent collections in Los Angeles, London, New York, and Hawaii.

Freelance, Senior Integrated Content Producer
Lisa Kunst is an award-winning producer who has worked in the field for more than 20 years. In her role as a Freelance Integrated Content Producer in Chicago, she brings her expertise to a wide range of media including print, out-of-home, broadcast/video, experiential, digital, and interactive.
Lisa formerly produced work for Leo Burnett’s top national and global accounts including Procter & Gamble, Kellogg’s, Philip Morris, Wrigley, and Coca-Cola. She thrives on innovative thinking and creative challenges. With her seasoned eye for talent, and her ability to communicate effectively with artists, she has discovered, promoted, and collaborated with a wide range of photographers, artists, and directors.
As an enthusiastic participant in the ad industry world, Lisa conducts portfolio reviews for photography publications such as AtEdge, and her work has been featured in Photo District News (PDN), Lürzer’s Archive, Little Black Book, and Contagious Magazine. She serves on industry panels and as a juror for the International Photography Awards (IPA), Advertising Photographers of America (APA), International Conference for the Picture Archive Council of America, International AICE Awards for independent creative, editorial, design, visual effects, color grading, and audio post-production.
Aware of beauty everywhere, Lisa enjoys drawing, painting, photography, travel, and exercise.

Gabriel H. Sanchez
The New York Times, Photo Editor
Gabriel H. Sanchez is a Photo Editor at the New York Times and the former Photo Essay Editor at BuzzFeed. During his six year tenure at BuzzFeed, Gabriel published over 2,000 lens-based stories which use photography to explore aspects of culture, art, history, and current events. His thoroughly researched and curated photo essays often expose underrepresented cultural threads that weave history together. Gabriel is the co-author of In the Limelight: The Visual Ecstasy of NYC Nightlife in the 90s, published by Prestel & Penguin Randomhouse. In his spare time, Gabriel is a contributing art writer to Artforum International Magazine and the Aperture Foundation.

Jillian Harris is a multi-faceted, Creative Director whose experience straddles traditional design (design and art direction for brand identities, photoshoots, print/digital ads, and social media campaigns) as well as user experience design for web and digital platforms.
She has worked on more than 100 global and national brands across 15 major industries including education, healthcare, finance, alcohol, lifestyle, and fashion. Her client list spans, her native Trinidad, New York, London, and South Africa and includes Jimmy Choo, Pernod Ricard / Accept Responsibility, Wild Turkey American Honey and Rare Breed, The Glenlivet, The University of California Santa Cruz, Scholastic, Amazon, Amazon Kindle, Home and Garden Television, Good Housekeeping Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, All Clad, KRUPS, Lagostina, Rowenta, Markwins, American Express Publishing, Conde Nast, Financial Times, Medtronic, AGFA, and Xerox.

Dudley M. Brooks
The Washington Post, Deputy Director of Photography
Dudley M. Brooks is the Deputy Director of Photography for The Washington Post, where he manages the strategy and production of all photo content for the Features and Sports sections. He is also the Photo Editor for The Washington Post Magazine. Immediately prior, Brooks was the Director of Photography and Senior Photo Editor for the monthly magazine Ebony and its weekly sister periodical Jet – both published by Johnson Publishing Company in Chicago. These iconic publications chronicled the African-American experience for over 70-years and he was a key member of the senior staff responsible for enhancing the editorial approach of each.
What type of work would you like to see?: No preference.
Freelance, Visuals Director / Producer
Tracey Woods is a Visuals/Photo Director with a strong background in producing editorial and advertising assignments for publications and brands, most recently for Essence Communications. Tracey is also an active artist recently creating window artwork for Macy’s flagship stores in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. She has an MFA in photography from Pratt Institute.
What type of work would you like to see?: Portraiture, still life, fashion & beauty
Google, Visual Lead
At Google, Anna manages a team of image professionals who specialize in imagery at scale. From curation to creation, her team works with products to understand their imagery needs, provide expert guidance, assist with imagery gaps, and help to train classifiers to improve image results.
What type of work would you like to see?: Probably best suited to review anything other than fine art – photojournalism, commercial, etc.
Mary Virginia Swanson
MV Swanson & Associates, Advisor to Emerging and Established Artists
Mary Virginia Swanson is an author, educator, and advisor who helps artists find the strength in their work, identify appreciative audiences, and present their work in an informed, professional manner. Unique among authorities in our field, Swanson’s in-depth knowledge, professional reputation, and connections throughout our industry offers a broad range of perspectives on both the making and marketing of photo-based work. Swanson frequently serves as a judge on photography & photobook competitions, a portfolio reviewer at industry events, and lectures at arts and academic institutions on professional practices.
What type of work would you like to see?: Swanson is happy to look/discuss personal projects, photobook concepts, websites/Instagram accounts and other marketing tools.
Fahey/Klein Gallery, Director
Nicholas Fahey the Director of the Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles, a leading voice in the photography market for over 30 years. Previously co-founded an internationally distributed fashion magazine, developed the first mobile ad network for the health care industry, photographed polar bears and co-founded a cannabis advertising agency. He currently has an Airbnb rental in Landers that he uses as an artist residency. He also leads art tours of the high desert for Los Angeles based collectors.

Anne Farrar, is a photo editor at National Geographic, she believes in the power of visual storytelling to serve as a call to action and a catalyst for change. Her work is guided by the National Geographic mission to explore the planet, protect and preserve our natural and cultural heritage, and share powerful visions of the world through photography across all platforms.
