Rediscover the Fun of Photography
As professional photographers, we’re often focused on precision, control, and delivering flawless results for our clients.
FUJIFILM X half changes that, putting joy and exploration ahead of pushing technical boundaries. You can reconnect with the playful side of photography that often gets buried in our daily workflow. To get a deeper perspective, we sat down with renowned photographer, and ASMP Member, Derek Fahsbender to explore X half’s true appeal to a working professional.

Where Challenge Meets Freedom
“I have enough technology, but not too much technology. I’m not distracted by it. We want to bring the process back and slow it down,” Derek says of X half’s design.
X half pushes you to embrace spontaneity instead of perfection, encouraging the exploration of moments and unexpected results.
“It’s so much fun making the images I otherwise wouldn’t have paid attention to because I’m fiddling around with some setting. Less is more.”
Experience the Nostalgia
“X half is made to be used in Film Camera mode. You get the most out of the experience – you don’t want to just be looking at the images,” Derek says. “No matter how much we talk about aesthetics, if there’s no feeling behind it and no meaning, why did you make a picture of something? That’s what’s important.”
The charm of Film Camera mode is your true connection to each moment. It’s a love letter to classic photography in a tiny body. As well as removing the ability to review images until the digital film roll is developed, Film Camera mode also only uses one Film Simulation throughout.
In Derek’s eyes, being locked into one choice leads you to think outside the box. “That’s how we grow and progress as photographers. We learn to see differently through that restraint.”

Expand Your Creative Impact
Beyond your phone screen, X half images look lovely in print. Whether you choose to enlarge and frame, add X half’s images to a photo book, or experiment with printing on instax™ film, printing helps to share your vision tangibly.
“It’s all about the print. You don’t even have to sell it, just print it for yourself. You will never be in love with your work more than when you see it in print,” he shares. “When I saw X half images in print, that was the final piece of the puzzle.”
