Third Place – Series
ASMP: What was your inspiration for taking this photo?
Kevin Cruff: F-8 and be there! The beautiful architecture illuminated with such dramatic natural lighting – your intuition as a photographer runs wild!
The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain by architect Frank Gehry is pure 3D poetry in motion. The day we visited late last December there was a winter storm passing through that delivered heavy rain and wind. In the late afternoon the clouds began to break and provided us with an amazing light show.
ASMP: What other photographers’ or artists’ work inspires you?
KC: To start with – Frank Gehry and his incredible vision inspired me to photograph this building. I’m receptive to inspiration from just about any visual art form that surrounds me – including photography, film, painting, sculpture and architecture. And performance art such as Burning Man or the annual Solstice Parade here in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. And music. And Mother Nature.
ASMP: When did you join ASMP and what do you find most valuable about your membership?
KC: 1993 and find one the most valuable components of the organization is the ongoing education through seminars, workshops and guest speakers at local events. Also the community and camaraderie the group provides with local events such as their annual slide show.
ASMP: What kind of gear do you use?
KC: Canon 5D lV with various lenses, iPhone 8, iMac 27”, Adobe Suites
