Who We Are

The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) is the premier trade association for the world’s most respected photographers. ASMP is the leader in promoting photographers’ rights, providing education in better business practices, producing business articles for photographers, and helping to connect clients with professional photographers. ASMP, founded in 1944, has nearly 5,000 members and 38 chapters. Attend one of our upcoming events, meet other local photographers and consider joining ASMP to take advantage of all the benefits we have to offer.

Mission Statement

ASMP Colorado serves fellow professional and emerging photographers by presenting educational programs, fostering camaraderie and as a creative resource for the art buying community.

Letter from our new ASMP Colorado President, Jen Magnuson

Can you believe it’s already 2022? I am honored to serve the ASMP Colorado Chapter as president for the next two years. I definitely didn’t expect to be stepping into this role when I showed up at a brewery for a photographer meetup after joining ASMP in 2017 and was promptly invited to join the board to take over ASMP Colorado’s social media channels. But after four years on the board as social media chair, treasurer, and vice president, here we are. I am excited to lead our chapter into (what we hope) will be the post-pandemic era!

I have immense gratitude for our outgoing president, Katie Warnke, who in early 2020 deftly guided our chapter from an in-person ASMP 75th Anniversary Strictly Business headliner to an all-virtual slate of events and workshops that kept our community engaged and thriving through the toughest two years in most of our careers. Her leadership and our bright, adaptable, creative team of board members have successfully steered us through this unexpected rough patch.

ASMP’s core mission is to advocate, educate and provide community for image makers – fostering thriving careers with a strong sense of professional ethics and an unshakable belief in the power of images. I will continue to lead our Colorado chapter on this mission, while fostering an inclusive community that values, embraces, showcases and elevates the talents and voices of all Colorado photographers, especially those from underrepresented demographics.

My own journey with ASMP started in Washington, DC, where I attended presentations and an assistants workshop while still in photography school. After moving to Colorado, I found our chapter’s Meetup page, prompting me to join both our chapter and board of directors. Since doing so in 2017, I have been mentored, met new friends and colleagues, elevated my photography career, and mentored others. My time with ASMP Colorado has paid for itself with jobs, connections and a wealth of knowledge.

Under my leadership over the next two years, the board will look to elevate the quality of our programming, and do more to add value to our photography community beyond the Front Range and Denver metro area. We are a statewide organization, and we want to recognize, be inclusive of, and provide valuable experiences and programming for photographers in every corner of this beautiful rectangle we call home. The pandemic has shown us we can be nimble, responsive and reach communities across many miles. We intend to take what we have learned during this challenge and use it to make our chapter better.

If the path I describe excites and inspires you to help, we always welcome new faces, willing hands and open minds – at any level in their careers – to help build our chapter. We would love to meet you, hear your ideas and put them into action for the Colorado photographic community. Please fill out an interest form here.
I look forward to meeting, working with, and serving you all as president in 2022 and 2023.

With gratitude,

Jen Magnuson (she/her/hers)
