Join us for this joint event hosted by ASMP Colorado and CPAC, the Colorado Photographic Arts Center, for a discussion on Transitioning to Fine Art Photography from Commercial Photography with Preston Utley and Julia Vandenoever followed by networking with other professional photographers.
Preston Utley is a freelance photographer based in Denver, CO. His interest in photography began as a way to connect with friends and family and has since spawned into a passion and a lifestyle. He is drawn to moments, light and the human experience.
Julia Vandenoever For as long as I can remember, I’ve told stories through images, from my childhood in Vermont, through college at Smith, where I majored in art history, and beyond. My extensive photography education includes stints at the SALT Center for Documentary Studies, attendance at the prestigious Eddie Adams workshop, and Review Santa Fe at Center. My career in photography began with Literacy Through Photography at the Center for Documentary Studies, after which I landed a job as assistant photo editor at Outside Magazine. For more than a decade I worked in magazines; following Outside I served as photo editor for Skiing and Backpacker. In 2011, I became a full time photographer, and my clientele ranges from Vegetarian Times to US Potato Board.
For me, photography is as much as art as it is a vocation. My work has appeared in group exhibitions, and in 2014 I was selected artist in the CSArt (Community Supported Art) sponsored by the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. My project, Open Spaces, focused on the aftermath of the 2013 Boulder flood. In 2012, my fine art project, Sidelined, was juried into Review Santa Fe and featured in Fraction Magazine.
