John Kovacs was appointed by Governor Hickenlooper to the SBDC Advisory Board in 2016 and joined the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) in 2017 as Business Navigator for Colorado. Since March, 2019 John has served as Employee Ownership Analyst for the State, helping to create and launch the State’s Employee Ownership Network (EON) and supporting the Colorado Employee Ownership Commission.

John spent 20 years as a corporate HR Manager where he led a team who were responsible for HR operations for 69 units in 16 states across 5 time zones. John’s team had the lowest turnover rate and highest engagement score in the nation and he travelled approximately 50,000 miles a year.

John holds a Master of Labor and Industrial Relations (MLIR) from Michigan State University and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor as well as SPHR and SCP certifications at the time of his retirement from HR. John lives with his family and 2 dogs in Evergreen and is greatly enjoying his encore career in public service.
