Brews & Business: What It’s Like to be a Staff Photographer with Bill Cotton – March 2020

Bill Cotton portrait

Higher education is one of the few industries where photographers are commonly employed in staff positions. Photographer with Colorado State University, Bill Cotton will talk about the benefits and challenges of working as a staff photographer for a university.

Bill Cotton is principal photographer at Colorado State University in the Division of External Relations, producing images for editorial, public relations, corporate, advertising, marketing and social media use. He is comfortable working a surgery suite or the side of a cliff. His extensive experience as an outdoorsman, emergency medical technician, search and rescue volunteer, ski patroller and wilderness safety educator allow him to be engaged in a wide variety of difficult to capture situations. He is also a photography instructor for CSU’s Department of Journalism and Media Communication. Bill is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers and University Photographers Association of America.
