What is Blockchain and What Does it Have to do with Photography?
Did you know that blockchain is a form of secure digital record keeping? Curious how it affects you and your photography? Join us as Patti Hallock describes blockchain, how it’s being used in the art world and what the potential pitfalls are as things stand today.
Blockchain presents new opportunities for democratizing control over ownership of all sorts of products both digital and physical and the art world is paying attention. This technology has the potential to help photographers provide ownership certification, museum quality provenance tracking and control over the copyright and usage of your artwork in the physical and digital realm.
Patti will give a high-level overview of the technology to help you easily understand how it works. Really! She promises, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to get it. Second, she’ll talk specifically about the photographic art market and review some of the reasons why blockchain is an important move forward toward returning control back to the owner of the photograph.
We will review some of the current offerings that are designed around blockchain and specifically targeted toward photographers. Finally, we’ll discuss the problems of the blockchain market as it stands today and look to the future. You’ll leave understanding what it is and why it matters to you. Armed with this information you will be prepared to evaluate the possible applications in your photographic art career.
