May 5 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free – $10.00
Join ASMP Colorado from 7 to 9pm Monday, May 5, at Diebolt Brewing for Brews & Business. Our very own Sam Couch will be presenting his Night Sky class. This gathering kicks off a two-part event. The in-person class on May 5 will equip attendees with the knowledge and skills to capture stunning images of the night sky and Milky Way. The session will include a 30- to 45-minute presentation followed by a Q&A, covering topics such as camera settings, tools, how to find a dark sky location, planning a dark sky shoot, and essential tips and tricks for photographing the night sky with a DSLR or mirrorless camera.
Part two is set for May 17 at Lookout Mountain, weather permitting. This session will provide an opportunity to practice your new skills and ask questions. Please ensure you can carpool or drive yourself. Remember to bring fully charged batteries, lenses (with focal lengths ranging from 10mm to 70mm), memory cards, a camera remote if available, a tripod, a headlamp and appropriate layers for clothing. Sam’s goal is for each participant to leave this class with a deeper understanding of night sky photography, igniting excitement for their next adventure! If you’re unable to attend the first class but would like to join in part two, we will warmly welcome you!

Sam Couch:
My work is deeply inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson, whose concept of “the decisive moment” resonates with me as I capture fleeting instances that tell powerful stories.
Photography is an exceptional form of time travel, allowing us to share our unique experiences and perspectives with the world. My goal is to highlight moments that inspire passion, action, and beauty. Whether it’s capturing the thrill of human achievement or the vastness of the night sky, I hope to motivate others to appreciate and protect our world.
Through my lens, I aim to not only create stunning visuals but also to raise awareness about the climate crisis. As a climate advocate, I am particularly driven to showcase the research and work of organizations committed to preserving our planet.
I have a passion for teaching photography, helping others find their voice and beauty in the world around them. These aspirations are integral to the future of my work, driving me to create and share with intention and purpose.
My mission is to cultivate a vision in the world that inspires awe, makes people ask questions, and challenges how they care for the planet. Whether capturing the thrilling intensity of an action-packed sport, documenting groundbreaking research, or revealing the allure of the night sky, I strive to provoke thought and spark a deeper connection to our world.
