DEI/Paul WeinrauchPaul Hartmann is planning his retirement and has decided to gift his business to a minority photographer. From Paul H: I would ask them to “intern” with me for a period of time. After a year or two of working together I plan to give them enough lighting equipment, cameras, lenses, etc so they can continue to serve my clients.Currently, I am searching for the right candidate. Please let me know if you meet someone that has the drive and will to be a professional photographer but lacks the financial means to make that happen. I will be very particular about the person that receives this opportunity so let them know there will be an extensive interview/interning process.Announce on website, February newsletter, social media and to the schools. Do not publish anything that is not approved by Paul H.Paul W. have Paul H. put together interview application questions and Bullet point list of qualificationsPaul W. to get in contact with National ASMP DEI liaison.

Need to:Julie Kang – Assistant workshop video – just received, look over – ask speakers to look over their segment.I will continue to reach out to several non-members who are young and/or talented BIPOC, LGBTQ, female, differently abled, and encourage the board to do so as well, to see if they might be interested in joining ASMP and even joining the board.
Jen Magnuson/Vice PresidentI have been working with Howard Paul on transitioning him into my previous role as treasurer. I’ve also been working with Katie on some strategic planning for this year, including a possible virtual board retreat. I have also reached out to Amy Silverman and Brad Smith about the March portfolio reviews, but have not yet heard back from them.  I will be sending a Doodle poll out today or tomorrow for both a virtual board retreat as well as a second watch party for our DEI training.
Howard Paul/TreasurerJen Magnuson was a magnificent help in transferring treasurer duties to me. I am getting spooled up in the various details of the office. December accounts are reconciled and reports posted to the Treasurer’s folder in the ASMP G-Drive. *I am investigating a change to an entirely-online bank offered by our current online accounting program, WAVEapps before changing account signers and debit card holders at our current bank, Chase.
I’ve issued a couple sponsorship invoices that I’ve split into two payments, to accommodate cash-flow limitations of those that have stated they are renewing their sponsorship or are sponsoring for the first time, Thanks to Sponsorship Chairman Rick Souders for that guidance.

DescriptionThis will be an event that is targeting our students and associate members as well as AIGA’s (graphic design) students and associates. This will be an introduction to what a portfolio review is all about. There will be a max of 20 attendees that can bring work to be reviewed. Each will have a max of 5 images or work. No limit on how many people can attend.
We will start off with a breakdown of how a review works and what a person should bring with them. This will teach them the starting process of a review. Once that is done we will go into break out rooms and dicusess 2 to 3 portfolios for 15 mins. It will be a group review but the reviewer will be talking about the work to each student with the group.  If time before rotation there can be questions. Then we switch to the next reviewer and a different 2-3 students will be reviewed. That is how each round is done. I will try and put together a list ahead of time to control when each student should get the review.
After all 4 rounds are done then we come back together and have Q&A. This is when we should discuss strengths and weaknesses.   Timeline7:00pm-7:10pm announcements7:10pm-7:25pm Intro into how a portfolio review works and what to bring.7:25pm-7:40pm Round 17:40pm-7:55pm Round 27:55pm-8:10pm Round 38:10pm-8:25pm Round 48:25pm Wrap up and questions

DetailsTotal number of session slots will be 40. We will have two in the morning and two in the afternoon. This will give us more flexibility on when reviewers can join us. It can range from being with us all day or just there for one session.  When we offer slots our reviewers will get a chance to be reviewed also so they will get first dibs on slots. That way we can block off their sessions that they are not available for immediately.
We will be reaching out to a couple of diversity groups to offer slots for their members.  Will put them on hold for each group and then let them reach out to their members.  I will need help with that  pleaseI am going to look into having help managing this on the back end.  Briefly spoke to the LA chapter, Molly, about the who she hired and said she was worth every penny.

Old reports (through Jan. 14)
I’ve been working on a wide variety of things, which I suppose is my role as a floating board member. But I’m not sinking – yet.
I met with Flor and Bill Baum last week to consider our merit scholarships. Flor will have the report. But during the phone call, I recalled that we have a former fashion and editorial shooter of some reknown here in the valley. He’s fighting Parkinson’s disease now, making outdoor landscape and nature pictures – and videos. I reached out to him, and he’s interested in membership. Here is a link to his work and background: https://www.christophstopka.com
Samantha and I met today to work at nailing down event dates and some plans. She will have a detailed report. But already, I have secured David Riecks (controlledvocabulary.com and lead on the Library of Congress Photo Metadata Project, which I helped with a decade or so back) to join me for a presentation on metadata and copyright on Saturday, April 24. I’m also reaching out to several consultants, editors and gallery owners for our portfolio reviewers. And I’m attending the ASMP NE portfolio reviews, which continue tomorrow (Jan. 14), to see how they’re doing things.
Update: Attended the NE portfolio review. Had some nice chats with folks during sessions and even received a review myself. Marianne from national helped them. We should consider reaching out. I noted a few things:Things will run more smoothly if all are encouraged to update their Zoom apps BEFORE attending. There were some hiccups in screen sharing with the private rooms. Marianne, worried that resetting sharing for one room might muck up others, recalled she had created extra rooms. That proved to be brilliant, since she could switch reviewer and reviewee to a new one. They asked for $20 per review, accepted $10 on their form. They found few paid the higher amount. But their goal for the money was to give a little something to each reviewer and the balance to the ASMP foundation. Since I signed up late, they told me (honor system) to just donate to the foundation, which I did. Each session was 20 minutes, a subject we discussed in the group yesterday. Some felt it might be a little short, but the consensus seemed to be it was just about right. They gave us a countdown clock in the upper right of the screen, along with a 2-minute-warning pop up.
I edited/rewrote info for our website about the ASMP and suggested a couple style adjustments on our contacts page. Please Add Report
