Akilah Townsend

Born and raised in the Southside of Chicago, self-taught photographer Akilah Townsend uses warm, saturated hues to enhance her subject. The viewer is almost invited to fantasize and day-dream about the scene surrounding the image. Her clients include Jon Basil Tequila, RebBull Media, Men’s Health Magazine, and more.

My name bears a personal challenge that I embrace every day. Rooted in photography and beginning to flourish in film, I understand the power of visual storytelling, and how a single image can say so much more than just 1,000 words.

Who I am behind the lens is reflected in my work – meaning that every shot is not so much a portrait as it is a mirror, helping me to reveal my true self. As someone that descends from three generations of artistry, I feel it’s the combination of my American, Haitian and Cuban heritage that allows me to capture many different angles and perspectives, across many different and unique genres.

From photography to film, and documentary to fashion, fitness, and beyond, the past twelve years have taught me that my passion for content creation knows no bounds. I thrive off of the diversity in what I do and believe that everyone and everything is beautiful when presented in the right light. So I seek out the elegance in whatever I compose because even grit can be graceful.

Flint Chaney

“Using composition, structure, and color, I engage the world as a visual explorer. My work as an artist is about seeing the beauty in the ordinary, and communicating our shared experiences; because that’s what unites us. My photography contains the work I am most passionate about. Iconic personalities, diverse communities, and the food we make and share with love. My subjects challenge my perspectives and continue to influence how I live my life. Welcome to the world behind my eyes.” – Flint Chaney

Flint’s illustrious client list includes: Allstate, Antares Capital, ATI Physical Therapy, Bai Antioxidant Infusion Drinks, BFG Studios, BMO Harris Bank, Boys and Girls Club of Chattanooga, Bud Light, Campari, Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, Chef Works, Chicago Gourmet, Chicago Magazine, ComEd, Crony Creative, Delta Air Lines, Edge Magazine, Encompass Insurance, FIGO Pet Insurance, Games of Champions Fitness, Gilead Pharmaceuticals, Health Connect One, Kilz Paints, Lens Crafters, Magnet Magazine, Metra, Moto Restaurant, Movement Mortgage, Moxy Hotels, Nurse N’ Go, Panasonic, Revolution Dancewear, Rolling Green Country Club, SO•PA Restaurant, Soho House, Sprite, Tessa Films,  Trend Magazine, and Verizon

Flint’s positive and upbeat personality makes it easy for him to work with others. He inspires creativity and allows the environment and people in it to inspire him. Whether it’s a commercial or an artistic portrait, Flint’s work documents and showcases not only his unique vision but also his artistic process which is an ebb and flow of good energy from the subject to the shooter to create a final outcome of great images. Flint loves to travel, try out new restaurants, and cook. He also enjoys swimming and snowboarding. He has competed in two Triathlons and is an avid baseball fan who prefers getting to work by bike when possible. Flint speaks Spanish and Japanese and is based in Chicago, IL & Chattanooga, TN.

When people ask me how long I’ve been doing photography I like to say, “Long before anyone started paying me.” A graduate of Columbia College Chicago I started assisting Chicago photographers while still in school. I went on to work for some of the best photographers in Chicago and frankly from around the world. At the same time, I always continued developing my own brand. Today, I shoot lifestyles, fitness, and corporate photography. For me, the key to success has been straddling multiple genres and client bases.
