Nolwen Cifuentes
http://nolwencifuentes.com/
Nolwen is a first-generation Colombian-French photographer and director, born and raised in the desert of Southern California. She now resides and works in Los Angeles. As a mixed-race queer woman, her identity plays an active role in the type of narratives she is drawn to. Her interests lie in shifting social consciousness, breaking down gender norms, and representation. Exploring portraiture within the landscape of American culture, Nolwen’s photographs deal with vulnerability and gaze between both subject and viewer. Nolwen approaches each portrait with openness and curiosity. Her images are a collaboration between herself and the person she’s photographing. Leaning into the energy of her subjects, Nolwen evokes a sense of authenticity and compassion to whoever sits in front of her lens.

Jake Stangel
https://jakestangel.com/
Born in Montreal in 1986, Jake lives in San Francisco and primarily works on his laptop in cramped airplanes(pre-COVID) and unremarkable hotel rooms throughout the United States and sometimes abroad. He found his true start in photography while documenting the first of three bicycle rides across America with a trusty Contax G2 and a less trusty 4×5 field camera from eBay that turned out to have light leaks. Jake transitioned from assisting to shooting in Portland around 2009 and is somehow coming up on a decade of shooting a mix of amber-tinged editorial and commercial work for clients ranging from Sauna Monthly to Chobani. His favorite color is sunrise and his favorite fruit is a peach.

Jessica Pettway
https://www.jessicapettway.com/
Bio: “Super bright, colorful, and cheeky”—that’s how Jessica Pettway describes her work. But there’s much more to her imagery than an electric-feeling bounty of delight for the eye. Jessica plays with color, shapes, and texture in highly gratifying ways, composing vibrant still lifes that burst with emotion and a sense of occasion, even when they’re promoting something as every day as a beverage. The woman knows how to craft a moment. She might also be the only still life photographer you’ll meet who cites Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry as influences. She likes the way those classic hand-drawn cartoons idealize food, highlighting the essential appeal of a wedge of cheese or a roast turkey with nothing more than color and a skillful use of line. “It’s so perfect and appetizing and over the top,” notes Jessica, who uses her Brooklyn studio to continually explore new ways to make exciting imagery out of ordinary elements. It comes as no surprise that in 2016, Vice celebrated her work, saying that her pictures “redefine still-life photography.” The question that remains now is, What will Jessica, whose clients range from Apple, Instagram, and Uber to Unilever, Wired, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Refinery29, come up with next? We can’t wait to see.
