ASMP/Architecture Exhibition at the 2010 AIA Convention Benefits from Canon Sponsorship
Thanks to the hard work of many ASMP/Architecture Specialty Group members and to generous Canon sponsorship, the ASMP/Architecture gallery exhibition at the 2010 AIA Convention in Miami Beach was a tremendous success.
“The Miami Beach convention helped the ASMP South Florida chapter to rekindle a sense of team spirit and effort through a unified goal,” says Jorge Parra, South Florida chapter president and co-chair of the ASMP booth at the show.
“Part of the goal of these events is to help build community among the membership,” explains ASMP/Architecture co-president Jeffrey Totaro. “This can happen when many people come together to help out, and it was great to meet some new members [at the convention],” he adds.
Sporting the theme Design for the New Decade, the ASMP gallery was a big draw for the more than 18,000 attendees walking the show floor. Judges Chad Oppenheim (architect), Kevin Bruk (Miami gallery owner) and ASMP’s executive director Eugene Mopsik selected 30 images to be featured from 25 ASMP/Architecture members. Canon sponsored the printing of large exhibition prints.
“Canon has continuously sponsored ASMP/Architecture’s exhibits at AIA Conventions since 2006 when the convention was held in Los Angeles,” notes ASMP/Architecture co-president Chun Lai. “We would like to thank Amy Kawadler and Canon for their support in producing these beautiful prints.”
In preparation for next year’s convention, to be held in New Orleans from May 12-14, 2011 and themedInnovations in Regional Design: Place-making in the 21st Century Metropolis, during March 2011 Architecture specialty group members will be asked to submit images from the New Orleans area for consideration in the exhibition.
