2013 National Board Election Coming UP
Eleven candidates have declared their intention to run for the 5 available seats on the ASMP National Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of 15 General Members who are elected for  three-year terms. Term limits prohibit Board Members from serving more than two terms in a row and this year, there are 3 incumbents running along with 8 others. Each candidate has provided a statement and will answer questions submitted by ASMP voting members. Voting begins next month online so make your voice heard by staying informed about the candidates and issues. And, most importantly, if you are a General or Life Member, plan to vote between February 15 and March 15! Find out more about the candidates here.

FAP Expands Specialty Areas
ASMP is always thinking about how to make Find A Photographer more useful to potential clients – and to our members. After a recent review of the specialty categories, ASMP’s FAP Committee has split combined specialties, and added specialties that weren’t in the list before. The new expanded list allows you to target your audiences more precisely and you may want to consider re-tagging a portfolio or changing some images.

  • After a storm of criticism from ASMP, who issued a statement on the subject, and many others, Instagram backpedaled on proposed changes to its terms of use. In fact, according to App Stats , the number of people using Instagram dropped by half last month. Peter Krogh , Chair of ASMP’s Digital Standards Committee, has written about the current situation. See his analysis here.
  • Executive Director Eugene Mopsik traveled to London with PLUS CEO Jeff Sedlik for talks with CEPIC (Centre of the Picture Industry) and other European Union partners in support of PLUS’ inclusion in various registry efforts conducted by the EU and UK. They met with representatives of EP UK, the Association of Photographer (AOP), the Stop 43 effort, the UK Copyright Office, the Linked Content Coalition (LCC) and CEPIC. They also had a full day of meetings with the CEPIC board and the LCC.
