We need your voice and input! Take the Survey from our partners at the Copyright Alliance. The Survey ends Monday, April 20, so take ten minutes and make your voice heard today.
On March 19th, 2026, the US Copyright Office (USCO) issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that outlined the results of a new Fee Study and proposing new fees for copyright registration. When NPRM’s are issued, the public has a period of time to draft and send them comments. ASMP often writes in response to those NPRM’s and this one is no exception. We will always stand on the side of providing more access for creators to the Copyright Registration system, and will forcefully oppose any barriers that make this harder to do.
Specifically, for photographers, they are proposing raising the Group Registration fee for Photographs from $55 to $85, an increase of nearly 55%. Other groups of creators see even steeper increases.
To help us, we ask that you take ten minutes and fill out the survey from our partners at the Copyright Alliance. Your survey responses will provide additional information vital to our response. Separately, we may reach out to you directly for your experiences and thoughts on this issue. If you have opinions that you wish to share beyond taking this survey, please send us a note at advocacy@asmp.org.
Take A Deeper Dive on Wednesday, April 22 at the New ASMP Town Hall Series Creative Focus
We are going to be taking a deeper look at this NPRM, and its implications, in Creative Focus: A *NEW* Town Hall Series from ASMP. The first live event of this bi-weekly series is taking place Wednesday, April 22 at 3pm ET. You can sign up for this FREE event HERE! This new series is hosted by ASMP CEO Thomas Maddrey, and is created with support from PetaPixel. Each event will have a special guest (or two!) and for the first session, Thomas will be joined by Jaron Schneider, Editor-in-Chief of PetaPixel to discuss the industry, AI, copyright and more. Of course, questions are welcome, and we hope to see you there!
