Grab your camera and join the CASE Act Challenge! Submit an image or a video telling the world why it is important for Congress to enact the CASE Act!
Images: Make a sign. Something that reads “I Support the CASE Act!” or “Visual Creators Support the CASE Act” “Protect My Rights – Enact the CASE Act!” or signs with other phrases in support of the CASE Act using #HR3945, #SmallClaims, #MySkillsPayBills and #MyCASE4Copyright tags.
Videos: We need succinct videos (in the 90-second range) that say why the Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement (CASE) Act legislation would make a difference for you as an individual visual creator. Your video should be personal and direct, and you can use information about your individual situation to make the case (no pun intended). For example, you could describe the number of infringements you have faced in a given time period, or reference the loss of income in $$ terms or percentage terms, or how infringements could impact or have impacted your ability to control usages and/or licensing of other uses downstream. Or simply tell the world that the rights of creators and their incredible works need to be protected and the CASE Act will protect visual creators. All issues are fair game!

“My name is ________ and I’m a _________. Currently, Congress is considering the CASE Act to establish a copyright small claims court for hundreds of thousands of individual creators. Most artists in this country lack the resources to enforce their legal rights in federal court; attorneys will often only take a case if the damages exceed $30,000, making the law inaccessible to most. This bill would create a venue for copyright owners to get relief for smaller acts of infringement. $3,000 is a lot of money to a small business owner; money that is used to pay for studio space, health insurance, and equipment. Our Nation’s copyright laws need to respond to the financial limitations of individual creators. Please join me in supporting the CASE Act by calling your elected representative. To be a supporter of the arts means being a supporter of artists. Thank you!”
The Challenge: The chapter with the most entries (percentage of total chapter membership) will win $150! Deadline is Monday, June 25th at 11:59pm. Submit your image or video today so we can share your work on ASMP social media and in discussions with the creator community and Congress. Send a link to your video to communications@asmp.org, and don’t forget to share your images/video on Twitter, FB, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Note: Twitter will allow for videos that are less than 1 min 40 seconds.
If you don’t want to be the actor in your video, recruit your ASMP colleagues, your clients, your neighbors, and/or your families! Just hand them a script and hit record. The 90-second video doesn’t need to be a 3-day professional production.
