With the recent announcement of the approved funding by the full House Appropriations Committee of $145 million for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for FY 2018, ASMP strongly urges Congress to approve the proposed NEA funding for 2018. While ASMP notes that this funding approval does not support the full amount of $155 million that was initially sought by a bi-partisan majority of House members, this initial approval goes far in making it known that the Arts are a critical component of our economy.
According to our advocacy partners at Americans for the Arts, NEA investments in the arts helps contribute to a $730 billion economic arts and culture economic industry, including 4.2 percent of the annual GDP and supporting 4.8 million jobs that yields a $26 billion trade surplus for the country.
We encourage everyone to contact their Representative and Senators to request that their Representative and Senators support the funding of $155 million for the NEA for FY 2018, as the investment in the NEA is critical to our creative economy.
