While I always treat myself to a few new “Back to School”-style supplies to ring in the change of season–a fresh box of Sharpies and maybe an iPhone 5, both in black, please–mostly I’m viewing this particular fall as an opportunity to reevaluate my marketing presence, so I’m presenting my best face to the world as it comes back online after summer hiatus.

First, I’ll be reviewing all of my various writing outlets to make sure I’m putting energy in the right places. Is that marketing column for actors still a smart use of my time? Should I scrap or rejigger it so it’s better aligned with my current goals? Ditto my newsletter, my blog, and any guest-writing commitments I’ve made. It’s good to keep putting myself out there, but only if I’m doing it in a way that truly benefits me and the world.

Second, I’ll review all of my marketing materials: bios, head shots, LinkedIn profile, Biznik profile, etc. It’s a good thing to do once or twice a year anyway, and as I’m coming off of a project that will leave me with a wealth of new experience and an, uh, unusual new hairstyle, I want to make sure that the Colleen people see online matches the one they’re going to be encountering in real life.

Finally, I’ll start thinking about my accomplishments and disappointments so far this year. This way, I’ll have a head start when I’m ready to plot out my goals for 2012, plus there’s still some time left in 2011 to tie up loose ends.

Of course, if I were really organized, I’d start working on my Christmas plans and spring break…

Colleen Wainwright is a back-to-school baby, so this is by far her favorite season. She’s celebrating it this year by raising $50,000 in 50 days for her 50th birthday to benefit an amazing nonprofit. You should totally make her fall an awesome one by giving generously to the cause.
