Entering the Age of Collaboration

[by Jorge Parra]

As photographers have been working as One Man Shows since the very early beginnings of photography, “Team Work” is not a native concept to us, but it certainly has to be explored, in this time and age where all business models are crumbling, and new markets and new ways of making money are being created.

Digital Photography easily fits this description.  Images in Motion fit this description. The iPad and all coming tablets fit this description.

In this interesting video ( link: http://www.edutopia.org/randy-nelson-school-to-career-video), posted as part of the projects of the EDUTOPIA FOUNDATION ( link: www.edutopia.org),  we can see The Den of Pixar’s University explaining how Collaborative Processes work far beyond just cooperation, and how it works to generate great working teams that will be capable of creating and producing results far beyond the individual capabilities of the participants.

No invention ever developed by humans has been tainted in advance, with a moral, social or economical intention. They are just bright moments of inspirations, but some creations change the rules of the games, and no one knows for real what changes are introduced by such inventions, which laws need adjustment, etc. All this comes later.

We are in the transition period where Digital Photography and Videography -and all associated creations- are changing the entire structure of the old systems, at both the creativity, social, business and legal layers, and still no one knows for real where are we going.
It is very likely that Collaborative Teams will more easily  help to dodge the negative impacts of the changes, while new rules for the game are defined.  Actually, it makes more sense that we become active participants in defining these new rules, rather than sit and wait for others to define them.
