I'm an Art Director for an Ad Agency. We get tons of this direct mail. A little advice ...don't send standard postcards. Period.

Be more creative. Maybe stop sending postcards all together.

Random quick idea...

Perhaps a disposable camera, tagged with your business card and a line that says something like, "In the even you don't have the budget for my services, I went ahead and saved you a trip to Walmart."

I would hope those serious photographers would consult an advertising agency, not just freelance designers or marketers.

Terrific timing! I just sent out my first email promo today and followed 98% percent of what she talked about here exactly! Of course it helped I had the services of her compatriots to do so, I didn't put as much emphasis and thought into my subject line or Call to action. Next round I will. Thanks for this ASMP!!!!
