Welcome to ASMP-NY's groundbreaking new Mentor program. This program was created to inspire and educate photographers by assembling some of the brightest minds in our field. Whether it's career direction, artistic development or technical knowledge, the program offers many opportunities to grow and learn. You can expect honest, open dialogue about aesthetics and technique; individual guidance; feedback on your work; and onsite experience.
Terminology
While "mentor" is a fine word that everyone understands, "mentee" is not. We could use "apprentice" but that sounds so 18th-century. "Cadet" sounds military, "novice" sounds monastic, "trainee" sounds like a fast-food chain. Therefore, let us use the nobler terms obiwan and padiwan. What, you don't like that? How about sensei and grasshopper? Ok, you get it by now. You are the gracious learner (technically, still the "mentee") receiving guidance from a wise and accomplished professional.
