Participating in image10 is done over the internet via this website. Images will not be accepted in any other format or media.

Step 1: Create an account
To submit an image for the contest, you will need to create an account. If you are a current ASMP member, you'll be asked for your login credentials (the same as you would use to log on to the national website). We'll use these to verify your membership and your discount. If you are not a member of the ASMP, you will be asked for some basic contact information.
Step 2: Buy upload credits
After you have an account and are logged in, you'll need to buy an image upload credit for every image you plan to submit. If you are submitting one image to the contest you'll buy one credit. If you are planning on submitting two or more images to the contest, you can buy the needed credits in one transaction or several transactions.
Note that the credit card form displays your address in editable fields. The address you should use in this form is whatever address your credit card issuer has in its files. If the address does not match what the bank expects to see, your card will probably be declined. (Changing the info on this credit form does not update your record anywhere else.)
Step 3: Upload your image
Once you have purchased some image upload credits, you'll see the upload images link become active on your profile. Use the form on that page to upload an image from your computer. At any time until the contest ends, you may delete an existing image in order to upload a better one.
Note that only images created after January 1, 2009 are eligible for this competition.

Technical considerations

It is necessary that you submit only JPEG images.

When uploading an image, please use Firefox. Other browsers — I'm looking at you, Safari — fail rather often. However, any browser can encounter a problem. If your profile page shows a missing-image icon or other evidence that something went wrong, just delete the bad item and try again.

For best results, prepare each JPEG file to be uploaded by

  • setting the color space to Adobe RGB (1998) using Photoshop's "Convert to Profile" command (or equivalent in other software). Other color spaces are OK if you embed the ICC profile with the image. This helps assure that the judges will see the same colors that you do.

  • sizing the image to exactly 800 pixels (height or width, whichever is larger). Other sizes will work, but the image will be scaled to that size by the server.

  • adjusting sharpness for best impact at that size.

  • adding your copyright and creator metadata using Photoshop's "File Info" command (or equivalent for other software). The server preserves metadata in the large version of the image, which helps keep it from being orphaned, but strips it from the small thumbnail to keep file size down.

  • saving the optimized file. Set the quality level as high as possible, but make sure the total file size stays below 2 MB. Larger files cannot be uploaded due to server restrictions.
