GREG JOHNSTON BIO
Photographer Greg Johnston is always on the move shooting editorial, advertising, corporate and stock photo assignments. He has been a professional photographer for more than 20 years with tourism clients such as the Bahamas, Barbados, Curacao, American Airlines and Air Jamaica.
Having grown up in Canada always believing to be born a century too late, his curious instincts have always taken him down a road less traveled. Photography has allowed him to be that adventurous explorer, creating compelling images of our world. Greg gained success in the 1980’s as one of the world’s most recognized underwater photographers. Traveling on assignment throughout the world for Skin Diver Magazine, Greg’s creative photography became much sought after by resorts and tourism leaders. In 1989, he formed Greg Johnston Productions and began moving forward in the direction of producing underwater commercial spots for television and advertising. His expertise as a film director of underwater photography was used on many projects including feature films, Discovery Channel programming, television commercials for CNN and Fox TV programs.
In 1994 while completing a documentary trip through Cornwall, England, Johnston notice how drawn into the natural ambiance of his travel images he became….each unveiling a sense of time and perspective. Turning full time to travel and lifestyle photography, his publishing and photo assignments have taken him around the world on national advertising campaigns, book projects, calendars, catalogs and hundreds of stunning travel brochures. His photography has been the centerpiece of many Caribbean Island tourist board promotional image campaigns.
Greg Johnston’s feature editorial and travel stock photography appear regularly in magazines like Caribbean Travel & Life, Endless Vacation, Islands and Boating Life, among many others. His enthusiasm and love for his work continues to bring creative ideas and new life to every project and he was awarded the Society of American Travel Writers 2000 Travel Photographer of the Year Award.
In the spring of 2003 Johnston’s first photo book Firewise Communities – How We Live, commissioned by the National Fire Protection Association was published. He is currently working on a second photo book, the Caribbean Escapes Collection, a compendium of luxury resorts to be published in early 2005.
Traveling extensively throughout each year compiling a comprehensive list of destination stock photographs, he brings to every assignment the experience and perseverance needed to return with stunning images under all conditions. Greg Johnston is regarded as one of the most widely published travel and lifestyle photographers.
