Interviews with ASMP Merit Members
In fall 2007, ASMP created a new Merit Membership category to recognize emerging talent, cultivate new members and identify potential future industry and Society leaders. The first of these memberships went to attendees of the 2007 Eddie Adams Barnstorm photography workshop. Here, we present a Q & A with several Merit Members.

How long have you been working professionally?
1 year
What has been your favorite photographic assignment or project to date?
Every time I start a project it seems to be my favorite because I am constantly growing as a shooter. I am currently working on a story about a 13 year-old boy with Prader-Willi Syndrome and right now that is my favorite project.

What has been your most challenging photographic assignment or project to date?
Every thing I shoot seems to be challenging. I enjoy trying to tell stories. It often seems as though a story has already been told, and I enjoy the challenge of trying to shoot it differently.
Please describe any special photographic projects or assignments in which you are currently engaged.
As a staff photographer at the Patuxent Publishing Company, everything I am working on is for one of our newspapers or magazines. I am currently shooting a story on a young boy with Prader-Willi Syndrome.
What is your greatest photographic aspiration?
To tell meaningful and impactful stories through images.

What is your primary source of news about the photography industry?
The ASMP website and the NPPA website.
Were you aware of the ASMP before receiving a Merit Membership?
Yes.

Since receiving your Merit Membership, have you taken advantage of any of the resources, services or discounts that ASMP offers to members?
Not yet.
Do you participate in any of the existing ASMP specialty groups or listservs?
Not yet.
Do you belong to other photographic associations or online groups?
The National Press Photographers Association, www.sportsshooter.com and www.lightstalkers.org.

What do you consider to be the most valuable aspect of your Merit Membership in the ASMP?
All of the great events in the Baltimore/DC area which I have not yet had a chance to attend (they always seem to occur when I am working!) I hope to attend one soon.
